Michael Carter Williams

Michael Carter Williams
I will discuss Michael Carter Williams who plays for the Sixers. His position for the team is point guard. The average height of a point guard is around 6 feet tall. Michael Carter Williams is 6'6. When I heard about his height I was surprised he played that position. I thought he would think he would be a power forward or potentially a center with all of that height.  He was 11th overall draft pick in 2013. The Sixers is his first team to play on in the NBA. Michael Carter Williams is only 23 and has a lot of talent in my opinion. He earned the title player of the week, his first week playing. The last person to get that was Shaq in 1992. That says a lot about his talent, and it was his first week with the big timers.

The thing I like most about him is that he can shoot as well as pass. He gets many assists and is not a ball hog. On the other hand he is a very good scorer but he can balance it out for the greater good of the team.  Two games ago the Sixers just won their first game of the season. If they lost that game, the Sixers would the got the record for worst start of a NBA season . They beat the Timberwolves 85-77.

Michael Carter Williams did great. He had 20 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. That is a great win for the Sixers. Every game Micahel Carter gives his all trying to get the win.  Two games ago against the spurs he had 24 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.  Three games ago against the Mavericks Michael had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists.  If he was a ball hog that 16 assists would have added up to at least 32 points just in two pointers which would give him a minimal of 50 points. That just proves my point of how he is a all around player.  He almost had more assists than points! In my opinion is going going to be a great athlete.  He is fresh of out Syracuse and has many years to play for the NBA. If they gives the same dedication and more he will succeed most athletes at that time.

Brian Westbrook

Today I will discuss one of my favorite Philadelphia Eagles player Brian Westbrook. In my opinion he is one of the greatest Eagles running back. He also could play receiver at times. Westbrook is very quick and a talented player. In 2004 he started playing running back for the Eagles, he rushed for 812 yards. He also had 73 receptions for 703 yards. The average of the catches is about 10 yards per catch which is good. He also scored nine touchdowns. I remember watching the Eagles when he was on the team many years ago when I was younger. I had his jersey and always cheered him on. He was my favorite Philadelphia Eagle in 2004. The Eagles and Westbrook went to the Superbowl that year with him, which they haven't seen in 25 years. It was an intense game against the Patriots and a tough loss. I remember being at a Superbowl party and everyone being upset at the loss. Most fans thought we were going to win our first Superbowl. Brian Westbrook is a strong athlete in my opinion. He was out due to a mid foot injury. Most of the star players were becoming injured quickly. Even with a swollen knee, he made sure to step up for the team. I respect him highly for recovering over the foot injury and tough it out with his knee. He is a team player and put his team over himself. Most players would have been cry babies and sat on the bench and still collected their money. You can tell by that action he has passion for the game and loves the team. The thing I loved about him the most is that he always put in 100%. Even if plays or games were tough, he managed to find a way to make a big play happen. He would never get discouraged quickly and just give up no matter what the score is. That is why Brian Westbrook is one of my favorite Philadelphia Eagles player.

Michael Vick

Today's topic will be former Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. People have mixed opinions of him outside of his football career. In April 2007 Michael vick was arrested for dogfighting. He was operating this business for 5 years and he was gambling on the dogs. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 21 months in prison and 2 months on house arrest. Vick was very wrong for that and people's perscpectives changed about him. Although, my opinion of him stayed the same. Everyone makes mistakes and you have to learn to move past it all. He served almost 2 years in jail, which gave him a long time to think about his actions. He lost all of his endorsements deals and NFL salary, he filed for bankruptcy in 2008. In my opinion, this man went bankrupt and pretty much ruined his football career and a lot of credibility but should be given another chance and not judged the way he is. He is human and makes mistakes, i don't condone what he did but I can say I forgive and forget and focus on his football skills.

In my opinion Mike Vick is a  phenominal quarterback. He can deal with a lot of pressure coming his way and handles it very well. Most quarterbacks choke and get sacked when they see 300lb lineman running them full force. But, Vick is different he can elude them and run for the first down and not freeze up under pressure. He is very quick and can find the tiniest holes to run through. He can also throw and make a good pass with players charging at him, which is hard to come by. When Vick was on the Eagles I used him to play Madden with. People underestimated his skills in the game. I could just use Vick for QB sneaks and would gain tons of yards. Although I noticed Vick is very injury prone which is a bad thing.

I think it was good for the Eagles to give him an opportunity fresh out of jail. Most teams didn't want anything to do with him. The Eagles looked at his talent and not his past. i think they made a wise decision doing it. I've always liked Mike Vick since he was playing for the Falcons. I think Vick is a great player and people should just move past the mistakes he made.

Allen Iverson

This week I will discuss my opinion on Allen Iverson. I believe he is one of the greatest players in the NBA. He is short for the NBA but has a lot of talent. He is 6ft tall his position shooting and point guard. For his height he could dunk which was amazing in my opinion. His 3 point shots were always going in and made the crowd go crazy. I remember seeing him in person, Iverson always put on a fantastic game. I went back repeatedly mainly to see his great talent. In my opinion he had only one flaw, which is practice. Allen Iverson refused to attend practice because he felt like he didn't need it. He could have been so much better if he went to practice.
He played 14 seasons of the NBA and played for four teams. He came into the NBA in 1996 and was drafted by the 76ers. He was first round pick for the NBA when he was drafted in 1996. His main team was the Philadelphia 76ers. He played for the Sixers from 1996-2006. His first year playing he was awarded rookie of the year. I find it amazing how he got an award his first year in the NBA. That let people know he was going to be a star player. He soon became an 11 time NBA all star. He won the All- Star MVP award in 2001 and 2005.

It's sad to see such a great athlete go broke. At one point he was estimated to be worth 200 million. I find it amazing how someone can blow all of it on cars jewlery and houses. Iverson owed his jeweler $850,000. He struggled with alchololism gambling and divorce. He started to play basketball in Turkey to pay off some of his debts, he got a $4 million contract for 2 years. He came back to the United Sates to treat a calcium deposit in his right calf. January 2013 he received an offer to play for the Texas Legends d league team, but he declined the offer. On October 30,2013 Allen Iverson made his announcement to retire. He let like he lost the desire to play. It's horrible because if he went to practice, didn't over spend money he could still be living his dream of playing basketball. Despite his flaws, Allen Iverson will always remain one of the best NBA players of all time.

Eagles

I'm Matt Konen and I will be discussing Philly sports. My first post will focus on the Eagles. The Eagles are 3-0 to start off the season. Last year they went 10-6. People underestimate the Eagles but the game is never predictable. The Eagles have still not won a Super Bowl yet. I'm hoping this season with the right coaching they can step it up and take home the trophy. I noticed towards the second half of the game they really step it up and try. The Eagles need to work on a stronger defense. They also need to stop the other team from getting touchdowns in the red zone.  The games this season have been nail biters. We will be in for a tough game Sunday the 28th.
The 49ers are 1-2 this season. San Francisco went to the Super Bowl last season but lost to the Ravens. They are a fantastic team with a rock hard defense, but this season there defense hasn't been up to par like usual. The Eagles will have to hustle hard throughout the whole game not just the second half. There has been a huge difference with the team performance. Since Chip Kelly became coach and Andy Reid left the Eagles are playing smarter and winning games. We still need to work on managing the clock towards the end of the game to seal the win. The Eagles are favored to win at a predicted score of 24-21 by fox sports. I know if they Eagles continue to play they way they are they will no doubt win the game.  Overall we are a much better team and are improving every game. The best feeling as a fan is seeing your team win. Dunkin Donuts supports the Eagles by giving out free medium hot or ice coffee when the Eagles win a game. It's a great combination between seeing them win and on top of that a free coffee.
